Spots east of the Kyoto Imperial Palace for obanzai and Kyoto-style set meals.
Everyday Kyoto cooking by the palace
The area around the Kyoto Imperial Palace is calm, a little removed from the tourist bustle. Here you can enjoy "obanzai" — vegetable-centered home cooking — without any fuss. This article introduces three places.
An all-you-can-eat obanzai lunch — Teramachi Yoshikura
Teramachi Yoshikura is a shop in the Teramachi-dori area east of the palace. Opened in 2006, it is known for its all-you-can-eat obanzai lunch.
Set meals of Kyoto produce with obanzai sides — Kyoumare Gohan-biyori, Karasuma Marutamachi
Kyoumare Gohan-biyori, Karasuma Marutamachi is a set-meal restaurant about a one-minute walk from Marutamachi Station. Set meals built on Kyoto produce come with small dishes of obanzai.
South down Teramachi, house-made Kyoto obanzai — Kyo-Obanzai Takayama
Kyo-Obanzai Sakedokoro Takayama is a shop in the Kawaramachi-Sanjo area (near Loft and MOVIX Kyoto), south down Teramachi-dori. It serves house-made Kyoto obanzai with set meals and zen plates at reasonable prices. About a five-minute walk from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station, and roughly a fifteen-minute walk south from the area east of the palace — an easy extension of a stroll.
